a moment in post-conference

Every day of my student nurse clinical experience consists of attending report, going to a class pre-conference (some days), diving right in to patient care, then meeting up for a post conference, which lasts about an hour. In our post-conference, we all share our experiences of the day with our fellow classmates, and there is always a good laugh or two.

Today, 6 out of 8 of us were waiting in the room for our instructor and a the other two that were MIA, working on a procedure. We got to talking about teamwork, and how we help each other out. As baby nurses, we often find ourselves forgetting little things, such as a pillow case, or grab the wrong kind of bandage and will have to run out of the room to get them. What we lack in awesomeness from our agency, we make up for in awesomeness within our group. We all work so well together to help each other out, and learn from it in the process. We laughed about this, acknowledging our flaws, aware that we're working on it.

Without skipping a beat, I struck the cheesy thumbs up pose and said to everyone, "Wow, just think, in 6 months, we'll all be real nurses!" To which most of us laughed.

The first year is going to be a fun one! :-P
